Our environmental policy
Summary
67 Bricks recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment that goes above and beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continuously improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operations. Through a combination of the positive choices we make and additional carbon offsetting we aim to be a carbon negative organisation. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same. In addition, we will work to promote environmental care and awareness internally with an emphasis on the need to reduce energy consumption and to manage our carbon footprint.
Responsibility
Jennifer Schivas, CEO, is responsible for ensuring that this environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of this policy are met.
Policy aims
In the implementation of this policy we aim to:
- Comply with all relevant regulatory requirements
- Become a carbon negative organisation
- Incorporate environmental impacts into our business decisions
- Minimise our waste and then reuse or recycle as much of it as is possible.
- Minimise energy and water use within our buildings and processes in order to conserve supplies and minimise the consumption of natural resources.
- As far as is possible, purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment.
- Continually improve and monitor environmental performance
- Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts
- Promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner
Key areas
Paper
We continuously aim to:
- Minimise the use of paper in our office
- Seek to buy recycled and recyclable paper products
- Reuse and recycle all paper where possible
Office supplies
We continuously aim to:
- Evaluate if the need can be met in another way
- Evaluate if renting or sharing is an option before purchasing equipment
- Evaluate the environmental impact of any new products before we purchase them
- Favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products whenever possible
- Reuse and recycle everything we are able to
Energy and emissions
We continuously aim to:
- Reduce the amount of energy used as much as reasonably possible
- Use LED light bulbs whenever possible
- Switch off lights and electrical equipment when not in use
- Adjust heating with energy consumption in mind
- Take energy consumption and efficiency of new products into account when purchasing them
- Actively participate in tree planting initiatives to offset our carbon footprint
- Aim to be a carbon negative (rather than just neutral) organisation
Transportation
We continuously aim to:
- Promote the use of travel alternatives such as video conferencing
- Make additional efforts to accommodate and encourage the use of public transport and/or bicycles
- Accommodate home working requests from staff whenever reasonably possible
Maintenance and cleaning
We continuously aim to:
- Work with our contracted cleaners to encourage the use of cleaning materials that are as environmentally friendly as possible
- Use materials in any office refurbishment that are as environmentally friendly as possible
Monitoring and improvement
To ensure adherence to our policy and to improve our environmental outcomes we:
- Continually improve and monitor environmental performance
- Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts
- Incorporate environmental impacts into business decisions
- Increase employee awareness of environmental impacts and concerns
- Review any business issues related to this policy as required at monthly leadership team meetings
- Review and update this policy annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary
Culture and communication
We believe that culture and communication has a key role to play, we:
- Involve staff in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance
- Work with suppliers, contractors and subcontractors whenever possible to improve their environmental performance
- Use local labour and materials wherever possible to reduce CO2 and help the community
- Communicate our environmental commitment to staff, clients and the publishing industry and encourage them to support it
