Most B2B information providers are already making money from their data. Far fewer are making the money it's actually worth, because that data is scattered across spreadsheets, databases and archive files with no shared structure.

That was the starting point for Infopro Digital's Chartis division, which brought in 67 Bricks to lead a data transformation project: merging data assets into a single repository, standardising inputs, and adding AI-enabled query and extraction tools. In this feature for InPublishing, Tom Lake (product and technology director at Infopro Digital) and Will Bailey (Head of Partnerships at 67 Bricks) talk through why they did it, what it's taken, and what they'd tell other publishers considering the same path.

The why was twofold: freeing up senior analysts from manual data wrangling, and unlocking new, more targeted products for audiences beyond their current buyers. The how comes down to five practical lessons, from bringing in outside expertise early, to briefing tightly but not too tightly, to resisting the temptation to build in isolation and unveil a finished product all at once.

For any publisher who suspects their data is underused but isn't sure where to start, Tom's advice is worth repeating: you don't need all the answers before you engage a partner.
